Tsung-Ta Wu, MD

Attending anesthesiologist, Department of Anesthesiology, National Taiwan University Hospital Hsinchu Branch.

Clinically I am a board-certified anesthesiologist and a board-certified intensivist. My research asks a narrower question: when we say intraoperative hypotension is harmful, what exactly have we shown, and what have we only assumed?

This site is where I keep the concepts behind that question in the open. It is a working notebook rather than a publication list: entries get revised as the evidence moves, and each one separates what is mechanistically established from what remains an open question.

Research

Three lines, all concerned with keeping patients physiologically stable through surgery.

Perioperative hemodynamics and hypotension exposure. How intraoperative hypotension should be measured (MAP thresholds, time-weighted average, area under the threshold), whether prediction algorithms such as the Hypotension Prediction Index change patient outcomes rather than just the exposure metric, and where the evidence chain from 2007 to today still has gaps.

Microcirculation and organ protection. With the NTUH Center of Microcirculation Medical Research (NCMMR): sedative choice and its effect on microcirculatory flow and organ injury, and fluid strategy in transplantation.

Hemodynamic monitoring in difficult positions and difficult physiology. Non-invasive surrogates for cardiac output: airway pressure during prone-position spine surgery; dynamic preload variables in liver cirrhosis.

Teaching

I am the course director for undergraduate (UGY) medical students rotating through the Department of Anesthesiology at NTUH Hsinchu Branch. Beyond that role, I am also interested in clinical skills and simulation, OSCE design, team resource management, and nurse-anesthetist training. I also like reading the education-theory literature: cognitive load theory, multimedia learning, the worked-example effect, and keep those notes here alongside the clinical ones.
